Frequently Asked Questions

What type of cleaning products do you use?

We use gentle, non-abrasive, bio-degradable cleaning products that are safe for all types of gravestones.  All markers are cleaned by hand and no power tools are ever used on the markers.  All chemicals and techniques conform with the NCA (National Cemetery Association) guidelines.

The chemicals we use are the same utilized to clean the graves at Arlington National Cemetery, The Whitehouse, The Alamo among others.  You can assure that the chemicals and techniques used will be safe and gentle, yet get outstanding results.

How often should I have my loved one's gravestone cleaned?

We recommend regular cleanings at the minimum of once a year to maintain the gravestone's appearance and longevity. However most people find that our affordable service plans give you the most peace of mind and value.

Do you offer discounts for multiple services?

Yes, we offer special rates for clients who book multiple services or sign up for recurring maintenance plans. In addition we offer a veteran and first responder discount.

What makes our service different?

Grave Expectations is family-run and heart-led.  My 5 year old daughter Maizie, who has Down Syndrome, is a proud part of our mission.  Her presence reminds us daily of the importance of love, memory, and honoring others with kindness.  Each site we tend to is cared for as if it were our own family's.

Can I set up recurring services?

Yes!  We offer monthly, quarterly and annual plans, with discounts available for regular service.  We will even send updates and photos after each visit.

I pay for perpetual care so why do I need separate grave tending service?

Perpetual care (also known as endowed or permanent care) funds are used for general maintenance and repair of cemetary grounds.  The family is responsible for caring for the headstone and keeping the grave site neat and clean.

Isn't the cemetery responsible for maintenance of gravesites?

Cemetaries provide basic property maintenance such as mowing the grass, removing large branches, and maintaining the roads.  However, most cemetaries will not perform individual gravesite tasks, such as weeding a site, maintaining the turf, cleaning headstones, mulching plantings, or trimming and edging grass.  It is not practical for their landscaping crew to provide the level of attention that many families desire for their loved ones final resting place.

Can you deliver a message for me?

Yes!  When we visit a gravesite as part of a care plan or floral delivery, we can read a verbal message or poem, or recite a gravesite prayer.  We can also deliver written messages or set up an electronic call so you can see and talk to your loved one.  Your written message or video call will will be kept private, the call will be made privately as we step away and the letter will be delivered in a sealed envelope.

Since I can't go to the cemetery, how will I know you performed the services I requested.

We provide you with a photograph or videos taken at the site, either by email or text.

I'm not sure of the exact location of the burial site. Can you find it for me?

We will make every effort to locate your loved one's grave with the information you have available.  Most cemetaries maintain records that are very helpful.  Providing us with the gravesite and plot number is ideal.  At a minimum, we need the name of the cemetery and the name on the headstone or marker.  There may be an extra fee to locate non-specified grave locations.

Will you help me with my pet's memorial?

Pets are a part of the family and are memorialized in many ways.  Contact us to see how we can customize a care plan for your beloved pet's gravesite.

How do payments work?

All services must be paid in full before the service is performed.  Annual care plans may be paid in full at the onset or billed on a quarterly or monthly basis.  Floral deliveries must be paid in full before the delivery is made.  Other fees for planting, installation and maintenance will be determined on an individual basis.  Payments can be made by personal  check (15 day hold), cash, venmo, cashapp, or credit card.
